Hanging Out

We've just been hanging around in Chiang Mai for the past few days, our flight to Sydney is on Friday out of Bangkok. I feel fine, didn't take long to recover. We have been sleeping a lot though, and haven't been doing much around town. I think this is partially because I've been wanting to take it easy, and partially because we sort of felt like we already explored this city in the past 2 weeks. Not that we've seen everything - certainly not - but we're just maybe a bit burnt on wandering the same grounds a million times over, you know?

Anyway, we're excited to get down to Australia. We met an Aussie guy yesterday who said that Sydney is good for four things: cappuccino, caesar salads, a famous bridge, and no right turns. I'm excited about two of those at least, mostly the salad. My mouth waters for a good caesar salad...mmmm. He told us about a tour where you climb up the suspension cables of the bridge and we pretended to be interested. I like bridges, but prefer to stay on the ground. Sean, you can do the damn bridge climb when you come visit.

So, we fly out Friday Chiang Mai to Bangkok at 11am (arrive 12pm) then Bangkok to Sydney at 5pm, arriving at 6am Saturday morning. Kane's friend Kelvin will pick us up from the airport, bless his soul, and has offered his apartment for us to stay for a couple nights. I'll miss how cheap Thailand is, but I think Australia will feel much more like home to us.

On one hand I can understand you wanting to leave Thailand, but on the other hand, am surprised as well, since the 'cheapness' is such a draw. I am reminded how I have suggested countless times that you should get a new bed, since the free one you got from your first apartment while attending Cal Poly was horrible and could hurt you. I always received the same response when I tried to get you to improve your sleeping conditions, "Mom...........FREE BED!" :)

Angie...so glad to know you are feeling better. I know everyone's level of concern shot waaaay up. No right turns?? And, in my world suspension bridge does not equal climbing tour. Tours involve pavement, trails and cruising the back roads of Ireland. Sounds like a peaceful end with Thailand. Good/safe journey down under.

I think everyone needs to remember that a right turn in Aussie is like a left turn here since they drive on the wrong (not other, WRONG!) side of the road. The other great thing about Aussie, which you'll discover very quickly, is that they speak English. That, and they don't try to scam you at every corner. I think you'll find the peace of mind well worth the added cost of living/traveling

It's good that you can just kinda relax on your last few days in Thailand. Maybe that gets a little boring but, you did get to see some really cool stuff and seems like you mostly had lotsa fun there. Australia sounds like it will be a refreshing change for you. "Climb the suspension cables of a bridge"?!? That is INSANE!! No right turns just sounds like no left turns in San Francisco - a lot of driving around in circles on one-way streets. I guess you will be getting a car of some sort there. That should be very interesting learning to drive on the other/wrong side of the road. Well, I hope your last couple days there are nice. Good luck with all the flights. Be careful and stay safe. I love you!

OoooOh! Learn how to drive on the other side! My mother claims its all about how the driver is in the middle, but I think that's just cause she's dyslexic and doesn't know L from R anyways! I want to know if other people think its easy...

I hope you pick up Aussie slang and crazy words like petrol. The joys of speaking English in a country that speaks "English".

Personally, I don't see the draw of climbing a bridge. I like the ground. But maybe its cause I'm short? And since you're both taller you'd like that? I don't know, the ground is hard to fall off of...
