Bushfires - We're Fine

I just wanted to quickly post that Kane and I are safe and far outside any viable path of the horrible bushfires raging through Victoria. I have gotten a couple emails of concern, so I thought I'd better post an entry to assure everyone of our safety.

Though the fires are not terribly far from us, we live right in the city center and are in no danger of being directly affected. The closest fires are probably 100 miles from us; there is an advantage to living in the concrete jungle.

I will be posting an extended entry tonight or tomorrow including more details about this disaster. Please check back in the next couple of days if you are interested in further information. Thanks for your concern and support.

Yes indeed, we were concerned about you and the record setting Australian heat wave. Obviously not to mention the horrific fires. It's been getting a lot of press over here. Despite the traditional tough Texas summers (though fairly pleasant in the past few years), the worst heat I ever survived was in Calif.! When Grandpa had the liquor concession for the Pleasanton fair, we had 3 consecutive days of 111, 114 and 116. 1/2 the ice we were delivering to the bars melted before we could get it delivered. The race track lost money on that last day, as it was too hot for even the most desperately addicted horse gambler. When the fog finally started to come in, it was 110 at the Fair, and 60 in Oakland (20 mi. away). Drink more water than normal and school yourselves on signs of heat exhaustion. Stay safe.

ps you can put ice in your milk, stir it around for a minute, then remove it. Viola! Ice cold moomoo!

pss Adele had some contractions today and left work early. Today is the doctor's due date.

Whew! I'm glad you guys are not too near those fires. That's too bad you have to endure that awful heat wave - I hope it goes away soon.
So, the race is on between Jenny and Adele. That'd be cute if both babies arrived on the same day. We just went to visit Jenny and Matt this last weekend and she is doing fine and is very ready to unload baby Taylor. We're all sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for the new babies! :)
